Fantastic Fantasy and Animal Art

Cool Shapes and Creative Designs from Around the World

Introduction to Acrylics: for beginners or experienced artists

In this class we will be introducing new or returning students to the basics of acrylic paint, mediums and tools. Fun projects are assigned to learn to apply these basics. Students will be encouraged to have fun and create acrylic paintings on subjects that they love.

Material List: Assorted canvas, synthetic brushes at least 3 sizes flats, 3" and 2" hardware store paint brushes, 2 plastic scrapers, paper towels, 2 water cans, yogurt/margarine containers, round plastic palette, Golden Acrylic paint (Phthalo blue, Quinacridone magenta, Hansa yellow light, Carbon black, Titanium white), Golden acrylic gloss medium, color wheel, Value Scale (free from Liquitex Sketch book), assorted pencils, and an apron.

Plein Air: Painting Ladysmith with Teresa Knight

Relief Sculpture Workshop 2

You will learn to create a beautiful floral relief sculpture in this step by step informative workshop. Open to 6 students to allow one-on-one instruction, demonstrations will also be given throughout the class. All levels welcome.

­­­­­­Playful Letters

Instructor: Carolytnn Dallaire

Over four weeks, enjoy making beautiful letters that will enhance any card, envelope, document, poster and art piece.  Using a fine liner, we will learn several distinctive monoline alphabets that are easy to make look fine on the page.  As well, we will explore a few large, playful alphabets that will make our work most appealing.  Enjoy some contemporary lettering in a relaxed atmosphere.

Artist Journal

Instructor:  Carolynn Dallaire

This colourful 64 page journal, with some altered pages, is a fun, straight forward project to make.  The covers are a heavy, but fold-able, paper.  The inside pages are made from a large piece of light watercolour paper, Arches text wove, that will be already decorated on both sides with a colourful watercolour wash.  We will “tear” down the large paper into a usable page size, and then sew the cover and pages together using a French lace sewing style.  The book, measuring 5” wide by 6 ½” tall, is sturdy yet flexible, colourful and most enjoyable to fill.  A decorative button is often sewn on the front cover for decoration.  After the book is assembled, pages can be altered if desired, just another feature that adds appeal and mystery to this journal.

Drawing Book with Coptic and French Lace Stitching

Instructor:  Carolynn Dallaire

Our journal will be constructed from book board covered with beautiful decorative paper.  The book will be sewn together using waxed linen thread and the historical Coptic and kettle stitching as well as French lace stitching.  Both of these stitching styles are beautiful and very strong.

Willow Chair Making

Instructor:  Andrew Kent

In one day, you can make and take home your own classic willow chair.  Using Willow and Alder, this is a great first rustic building project.  No previous building experience required.

Abstraction by Design

Instructor:  Eunmi Conacher

This is a two day workshop.  On day one, you will be a demonstration of some basics of composition, value and colour.  After that, you will paint two or three small paintings as an exercise to help loosen up and let your brush flow freely.  We will also cover some basic elements of abstracts.  After lunch I will help you individually work towards finding your own voice.  On day two, you will be painting on a larger canvas which will let your brush go in a free flow manner and will allow you to express your individual feeling towards your art.

Material List:  1 of your favourite magazines and some collage paper, painting surfaces (1-2 small paintings and 1-2 large paintings) you could also bring 1 or 2 old paintings to paint over but that is optional.  You will also need all of your regular painting supplies.  Paper towel or rags, scissors, masking tape, sharpies or pencils, heavy gel gloss, artist grade acrylic or oil paints, and paint brushes.


Woodblock Printing

Back by popular demand, this on day workshop will allow you to create a small woodblock plate which will be printed multiple times to create a small edition of prints.

Paint Bright, Light and Colourful

In this workshop, you will learn different techniques using the style of Johan Messly to create bright and colourful, but soft paintings, with oils and acrylics.  The techniques that you learn can then be applied to your own style of painting.  Everything in this workshop is included, canvas paint, step by step instructions, etc., just bring lunch and at the end of the day you will take home a beautiful painting ready to frame and hang!  It will be a fun, informative and relaxing day of painting.

Facebook is a popular, free social networking site that allows users to create profiles, upload photos and videos, send messages, keep in touch with friends and family and meet new people.  So how can Facebook help artists?  In this beginner class, learn the basics from creating a page for your art, art event or organization.  We will also discuss scheduling posts, creating event pages, sharing, status updates, messaging and boosting posts to reach a wider audience.  We will also talk about some other tools to help you get creative when doing your posts.
