Bookbinding:  Artist Journal

Instructor: Carolynn Dallaire

canstockphoto30992955.jpg

This colourful 64 page journal, with some altered pages, is a fun, straight-forward project to make. The covers are a heavy, but foldable, paper. The inside pages are made from a large piece of light water colour paper, Arches text wove, that will be already decorated on both sides with a colourful watercolour wash. We will ‘tear’ down the large paper into a usable page size..... Then sew the cover and pages together using a French lace sewing style. The book, measuring 5” wide by 6 1/2” tall, is sturdy yet flexible, colourful and most enjoyable to fill. A decorative button is often sewn on the front cover for decoration. After the book is assembled, pages can be altered if desired; just another feature that adds appeal and mystery to this journal.

Class size: 5 to 9 students

Ages: Adults

Date: Sunday September 23, 2018

Time offered: 9:00 am to 12:30 pm

Cost per student: $40

If you have a bone folder, awl, cutting mat and exacto knife, bring those as well.  If not, don’t buy them as I have lots to share. Optional materials for altering the book you could bring a few of your favourite rubber stamps or images that you’d like to add to the book, a stamp pad or two you might have, a gel pen or anything else you would like to bring to decorate your book.

-6B Pencil (Same Brand suggestions)

-Pencil Sharpner

-Rubber eraser

-Sharpie black fine point marker (Dollar Store/Staples/Michaels)

-One F Ink file liner and one 0.2 or 0.3 (Faber Castel/Micro-Line (Chapters Nanaimo)/Staedler) or 2x Pilot Fine liner. They are highly underestimated pens!
