Sunday, July 8, 2018    The Arts Council of Ladysmith and District is very pleased to offer a Photography Talk with well known  professional artist and photographer Michael Schreier including a Q&A about the dialog between Painting & Photography.

More about Michael Schreier:  

MICHAEL SCHREIER  is a professional artist and photographer who has dedicated his considerable professional career to the celebration of both the public and private hero. Recent work includes Storyteller, Waiting for Words at the Ottawa Art Gallery, curator Emily Falvey, 2009, and the curating of the exhibition Dave Heath, A Heritage of Meaning, 2013 at the Ottawa Art Gallery. Selected works are represented in both public and private collections, including the National Gallery of Canada, the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography, the National Archives Photography Collection, the Agnes-Etherington Art Centre, the Canadian Portrait Gallery, Visual Studies Workshop, (Rochester, New York), Light Works Workshop, Syracuse New York, Carleton University Art Gallery, and the University of Ottawa Library Special Collections.

After School Art With Barry

Instructor: Barry Strasbourg-Thompson BFA

Class description: Come join us for 6 classes of fun!  Each month has its own theme which teaches students how to tell a story using visual language.  September's theme Famous and Favorite Sports, October is Great Ghouls & Ghosts Stories, November is Favorite Voices and Movie Stars, and December is favorite Love Story month. Come and create some exciting art with us. Practice with a variety of mediums such as painting, photography, printmaking, drawing, collage or sculpture!

Class size: 5 to 9 students

Date: ongoing   Ongoing Starting again in May - the First 3 Wednesdays and 3 Thursdays of every month.

Summer Art Camp with Barry

Two week long fun art camps this summer for those who love to create.  Students will be making paintings, printmaking, photography, sculpture and drawing and all the mess will be in our classroom.  Students will advance their own artistic "Voice" and enjoy the freedom of creating what they love.  Wear comfortabe clothing that you don't mind getting paint on  and bring a snack and something to drink for break time.  

10 to 15 students  

Date(s) July 23-27 and August 13-17

Time offered: 9-12 noon

Cost per student: $98.00 per week    and material fee per person: $25.00

Open Studio Printmaking

Facilitators: Dorothy Friesen and Lottie Anderson    

Open Studio is available to those who have taken a Printmaking Class or who are already familiar with printmaking.  Bring in all those ideas you can't fit into your own workshop and work independently.

Acrylics Class

This class is designed to accommodate a beginner or intermediate students. Instructions meet all levels in either acrylics.  You are required to bring your supplies along which may be what you already have or bring a red, yellow, blue, white and black.  This class is all about having fun while learning to open the muse. 

Class size: 5 to 9 students

Date(s) Preference:   Beginning in May 2, 9, 16, 23  we meet every Wednesday in the Art Room in the Ladysmith Waterfront Gallery.

 Watercolour: Make your watercolors come alive with vibrant color and values.

See what you can paint using solid and graded washes, glazing, wet in wet and dry brush to bring out the excitement in your painting.
