Class description: “Fun and Educational”. Students paint their own stories and make fun projects designed around the B.C. Visual Arts curriculum. After School Art With Barry

Class description: Come join us for 6 classes of fun!  Each month has its own theme which teaches students how to tell a story using visual language.  September's theme Famous and Favorite Sports, October is Great Ghouls & Ghosts Stories, November is Favorite Voices and Movie Stars, and December is favorite Love Story month. Come and create some exciting art with us. Practice with a variety of mediums such as painting, photography, printmaking, drawing, collage or sculpture!

Introduction to Etching - Drypoint   Instructor: Aaramë Robillard

 This is a great class for those with no prior printmaking experience. Learn how to create drypoint etchings on plexiglass. Students will spend the first part of the class creating an image on a plexiglass plate using an etching needle. After the image is produced, students will then use an etching press to create their own edition of drypoint prints to take home.

Playful Letters

Instructor: Carolynn Dallaire

 During this four week session, we will make beautiful letters that will enhance any project you are working on..... poster, art piece, document, card, envelope. To make our work distinctive and appealing, we will use a fine liner to learn a number of monoline alphabets and a broad edged pen to explore one or two large playful alphabets. Enjoy some contemporary lettering in a playful atmosphere.

(Note: You do not need to have take the ‘Playful Letters’ class first... they are parallel classes.)

Artist Journal

Instructor: Carolynn Dallaire

Class description: This colourful 64 page journal, with some altered pages, is a fun, straight-forward project to make. The covers are a heavy, but foldable, paper. The inside pages are made from a large piece of light water colour paper, Arches text wove, that will be already decorated with a colourful watercolour wash. We will ‘tear’ down the large paper into a usable page size..... then sew the cover and pages together using a french lace sewing style. The book, measuring 5’ wide by 6 1/2” tall, is sturdy yet flexible, colourful and most enjoyable to fill. A decorative button is often sewn on the front cover for decoration. After the book is assembled, pages can be altered if desired..... just another feature that adds appeal and mystery to this journal.

If you have a bone folder, awl and exacto knife, bring those as well..... if not, don’t buy them as I have lots to share. OPTIONAL.... for altering the book....and only if you have them.... you could bring a few favourite rubber stamps or images that you’d like to add to the book, a stamp pad or two you might have, a gel pen .....


Carousel Book   Instructor: Carolynn Dallaire

Class description: The carousel, or star, book is a lovely way to document a life story, family history, a special event, a vacation, a favourite place, a friend chronicle and many other themes. The shell of the book, made from card stock, will be already sewn together for you. Our first task will be to cover the book boards with decorative paper, add ribbon and then glue the book block to the covers. Then, the fun begins. We will make seven 3 dimensional scenes, based on the theme you have chosen. When these scenes are completed they will be glued (with double stick tape) into the book. When the book is completed, it will open to 360 degrees displaying the work you have created.

Note: If you do not have some of these things, I will be bringing extra tools and materials to share..... any book binding tools you may have - small cutting mat, metal ruler, scissors, pencil, eraser, bone folder, awl, x-acto knife Writing tools - fine black pen, gel pens, calligraphy pens, perhaps some white if working on black.... for adding colour to your pages - stamp pads, sponges, coloured pencil, chalk pastels.... Theme: Decide ahead of time what theme you’d like to explore for your book. Bring quotes, photos (or photocopies) and any other ‘things’ that would relate to your theme. Materials for the Content of your Carousel Book: - There will be some materials available that we can all use to decorate our books However, you may want to bring things you have around your home such as.....rubber stamps, magazine clippings, beads, tags, flat objects, raffia, pop-dots, photo corners, extra coloured or patterned paper, .....photos.... or scans of photos (no larger than 5 and 3/4” high X 5” to 6” wide) Materials to construct the book, as well as tape and a few other goodies will be provided.


Acrylics Class

This class is designed to accommodate a beginner or intermediate students. Instructions meet all levels in either acrylics . You are required to bring your supplies along which may be what you already have or bring a red, yellow, blue, white and black.  This class is all about having fun while learning to open the muse.
